The Snap dialog provides for setting up a grid that the area selection tools (except entire image and the pencil) will snap to.
The default key sequence to open the Snap dialog is D (shift+d) — you can also open it using the Selections/Snap Dialog menu command.
The default key sequence to turn the snap grid on and off is opt/alt+d — you can also use Selections/Snap Grid
The ✓ Horizontal control, when checked, turns on horizontal snapping. If not checked, and If ✓ Hidden if Disabled is checked, the horizontal snap indication will disappear. If ✓ Hidden if Disabled is not checked, then the Inactive Snap colors will be used to draw the horizontal snap indication.
The ✓ Vertical control, when checked, turns on vertical snapping. If not checked, and If ✓ Hidden if Disabled is checked, the vertical snap indication will disappear. If ✓ Hidden if Disabled is not checked, then the Inactive Snap colors will be used to draw the vertical snap indication.
The size controls affect the interval between grid lines. The minimum value is 2.
✓ S-Link, when checked, causes altering one size to also set the other.
The offset controls affect how far from the left and top edges of the image the grid lines begin. The minimum value is 0.
✓ O-Link, when checked, causes altering one offset to also set the other.
Dash Length gives you control over the size of the dashes in the snap line display. The minimum value is 2.
The Snap Dash Colors control the two pairs of two colors used for the dashes. The top pair are used when snap is enabled and snap display is enabled; the bottom pair are used when snap is disabled and snap display is enabled.
Clicking Default sets the two dash colors back to the default red/green and grey/grey.
The ✓ Hover obeys Snap control selects whether the XY and RGBA position displays in the main Areatools obey the snap settings, or follow the cursor exactly.
The ✓ Hidden if Disabled control, when checked, causes snap grid indications to disappear when they are disabled, either by the global snap enable, or by turning off the related snap control. If not checked, the snap grid indication is drawn with the Inactive Snap colors. However, if Selections/Toggle Snap Display has disabled display, the snap grid will not be draw regardless if snap is enabled or not.
The ✓ Hot Changes control, when checked, causes the snap grid to update on any open images as soon as any change to its configuration is made. When the ✓ Hot Changes control is not checked, the snap grid on any open images will not update until this dialog is closed.
