§ 19.6.3.2 - Maximum

This mode replaces the lower layer value with the upper layer where the average values of all three upper channels is brighter than the average value of all three lower channels.

Maximum will be identical to Brighten when the content of the adjustment layer is greyscale.

Where the higher layer is partially transparent, the result is mixed with the lower layer composite in a manner proportional to the amount of transparency.
