Women's Suffrage by the UN

by Eimy Mendez

Female suffrage, or female vote, refers to the right to vote exercised by women and therefore the political and constitutional right to vote for elected public office. Suffrage therefore covers assets, which determine who is entitled to the exercise of the vote as the social liability, which refers to who and under what conditions have the right to be elected.

The Convention on the Political Rights of Women was adopted by the General Assembly of the United Nations in resolution 640 VII on December 20th, 1952 and entered into force on July 7th 1954, based on Article 21 of the Declaration of Human Rights. The article detailed the right of women to vote, as well as their access to public office.
