The Rape of Nanking

The Rape of Nanking, or Nanjing Massacre, occurred over approximately six weeks, starting December 13, 1937, when Japanese forces captured the Chinese capital of Nanjing. During this period of the Second Sino-Japanese War, Imperial Japanese Army soldiers committed widespread atrocities against civilians and disarmed combatants, including mass executions, sexual violence, and looting. Somewhere between 300,000 and 300,000 people were murdered by the Japanese.
