Pentrich Revolution

England's last revolution

After the war with France people in England were unsettled and wanting reform. The government decided to make an example of a group of men in the Midlands village of Pentrich and tricked them into believing that a march on London was to take place.

The Pentrich men set off to join the "march" but were met by the militia, imprisoned and tried for treason.

The three leaders, Brandreth, Ludlam and Turner were the last men in England to be sentenced to be hanged, drawn and quartered - although ultimately they just had their heads chopped off!
