Zooming and panning commands are available when the image window is the active window. They are not guaranteed to be available if the image window is not the active window.
z and Z (⇧-z) allow you to zoom in and out.
Initially, dTank (β) is in a window-relative image sizing mode. In this mode, the image will be displayed at 1 image pixel = 1 display pixel (1:1) if the image window is equal to, or larger than, the image. If the image is larger than the image window, then it will be reduced to fit.
At the first zoom level, 1:1, the image is moved to the upper left corner of the image window, and whatever portion of it fits within the image window will be displayed at 1 image pixel = 1 window pixel. If the entire image does not fit, you can use the ←, →, ↑, and ↓ keys to move around.
Zoom levels higher than 1:1 work the same way, only multiple image window pixels are used to represent image pixels.
The ←, →, ↑ and ↓ keys allow you to move around an image when you are zoomed in. You can use ⇧, ^ and ⌥ in various combinations to adjust the size of the moves you make.
If the direction of the arrow keys motion when zoomed does not seem natural to you, you can use the main menu View/Direction Switch option to reverse the default motions.
You can control alpha checking behavior from the dTank/Preferences menu command's Visual pane.
